The Musings of a Third Culture Kid

As I thought over this past week I realized the one thing that struck me most this week was my trip to Washington D.C. I thoroughly enjoyed the wedding which I attended. The food was FANTASTIC! But the one thing that struck me was the four plane rides I took.

As a TCK (Third Culture Kid), plane rides have been a regular part of my life since I was eight. These plane rides were the first I've taken since moving back to the US four and a half years ago. From the moment I stepped in the airport and passed through security I felt like I was coming home. It's something that is so much apart of my life, I always feel a tug to fly every once and a while!

One of my favorite song's by Brandon Heath describes what it's like to fly and land so perfectly.
Looked down from a broken sky, traced out by the city lights,

My world from a mile high, best seat in the house tonight.
Touched down on the cold black tar, hold on for the sudden stop.

Breath in the familiar shock of confusion and chaos.
I feel that same feeling every time I land. I have always loved flying. I don't know if it comes from the fact that I flew so much in my developmental years or if it's just in the blood, since many of my family members are in the Air Force. I have so many memories of being stuck in airports, of amazing flight attendents, and adventures once we made it to our destination.

If you haven't taken a flight yet, do it! You never know to what adventures it will lead you to!
The happy couple!
